![]() Welcome everyone, to Suzanne M. Henseler Quidnessett Elementary School.
SMHQES has undergone a transformation this summer and re-emerged as one of five high performing K-5 elementary Schools in North Kingstown. We are the only school to have four full time kindergartens and the only Title One designated school. SMHQES serves approximately 350 eager and energetic students.
The philosophy of SMHQES, or Quid, as we are affectionately known, is to cultivate a school community that embraces families and our community into our school. Parents are encouraged to be active participants in the daily life of our school. Parents look forward to the monthly “Have lunch with your child” luncheons sponsored by COZ, enjoy our “Walk with your child” walks at recess every Tuesday, as well as numerous family nights sponsored by grade level teams and our PTO. We encourage community members to meld into our daily life as well by participating in such activities as student mentoring, literacy, math volunteers, and library volunteers.
During the year, students experience a wealth of programs and activities that reach far beyond the curriculum to expand the horizons and broaden the experiences of our students. For example, Grade five students participate in band, strings and choral programs, the DARE program, STARBASE, a unique five day hands-on Science and aeronautics program sponsored by and offered at the Newport Naval War College. Our Cultural Arts coordinator arranges for many cultural programs appropriate for the age group to enrich the lives of our students.
Quid is famous for its After-School Play, which is now in its 14th year! Past performances have included, Alice in Wonderland, Wonka, Aladdin, Peter Pan, Annie and many more. Students eagerly await the announcement of the play each year with enthusiasm.
The focus on Wellness and Athletics is strong at Quid as well. When parents walk with the students at recess, they track their steps as they mark their way across America. After-school intramurals are offered as well. Our Wellness Committee is committed to ensuring a healthy and active lifestyle for every student while they are in school.
Quidnessett provides a rigorous curriculum, an enriching cultural arts program, a focus of health and wellness, and a strong, nurturing and caring environment to enable our children to learn and grow into respectful, responsible and caring individuals. We encourage our parents, community, and you to come to Quid and share in the joy we share with each other every day.
We hope you will visit us in person or, if not, please browse our teachers’ web pages.
Sincerely,
Louise M. Denette, Principal |
